Prof. Xin Wang, PhD, SMIEEE
Biography
Xin Wang received the B.Sc. degree in electrical and communications engineering from Taiyuan University of Technology, China in 2006, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA in 2008 and 2011, respectively.
Dr. Wang currently serves as the Founding Chair and tenured Full Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL), a position he has held since August 2025.
Previously, he was a tenured Full Professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) from 2013 to 2025, where he also served as Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2024. During his tenure at SIUE (2013–2025), he directed the Basler Electric Power Systems Laboratory, focusing on power electronic applications and automatic control strategies for energy systems. Earlier in his career (2011–2013), he served as an Assistant Professor at the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) and as a faculty researcher at the Oregon Renewable Energy Center (OREC).
His current research interests include power systems, power electronics, electric machines, and control problems related to smart grid, robotics, and vehicle electrification. He has authored or co-authored more than 90 archival journal and conference publications in related areas.
He has been serving on the editorial boards of many IEEE and ASME transactions, journals and conferences in power systems, industrial electronics, and automatic control areas. Prof. Xin Wang is a senior member of the IEEE, ASME. In November 2019, he was awarded the IEEE Saint Louis Section 2019 Outstanding Educator Award.
